I'm trying to get from Luxembourg to Lausanne (Switzerland) and I am having trouble fining decently priced train or airfare. Has anyone done this route or have any alternatives??
When are you looking to take this trip?? Flying out of Luxembourg is always pretty expensive (only small aircrafts with not a lot of seats, hardly any competition). Also will you be just on your own in Luxembourg or would some local friend or colleague be able to take you to e.g. Trier train station? The fare from Luxembourg to Cologne airport (from where plenty of cheap flights depart) is €50 one-way. From Trier it's only €19 one-way. Of course you might also want to check fares for taking the train all the way through from Trier - or alternatively search for French rail fares from Thionville, the first larger French town after the border.
The best route I found is Luxembourg-Metz-Strasbourg-Basel-Bern-Lausanne. I found fares around €55 for Luxembourg to Basel on the French Rail site and 61 CHF for Basel to Lausanne on the Swiss Rail site.
Thank you everyone! :)
