I would like to make a trip leaving my Hotel in Rome to visit Naples then on to visit Pompei then on to Sorrento. I will have my suitcase with me and wanted to know if I could safely store it at the train station in Naples and at the site at Pompei so that I can continue my way down to Sorrento when finished. Hope someone can help.

Hi Kristina, We did the same thing from Rome to Naples to Sorrento a couple of years ago. Our luggage was safely stored at the train station in Naples and Pompei. However, Naples was notorious for taking a few extra dollars from us. The guy at the storage told us he had no change for our bill (even after we protested), so we were forced to pay him the difference of our change as well in order to get our bags. Apparently, these kinds of stories are common in Naples. Other people dressed as train personnal took our bags forcibly from us and loaded them onto the train, expecting a tip. Just be prepared for things like this, this was the only place in Italy we had this happen to us. Regards, Justin

To expand on the pests at Naples railway station. They usually wear blue jackets and claim to be official railway porters with official passes which they flash but without you being near enough to read them. There are no such porters (well there are some at some stations but they have to be pre-booked). We found them pushy but stood our ground and after a while they lost interest.
