Our night train from Munich stops in Venice at 6:30AM and we want to do a quick stop in Venice on our way to Rome. I have been trying to find out if there is luggage storage at the train station so we can do our short tour before heading onto Rome later in the day. I don't have my RS Italy book with me here in Germany so unable to check. Thanks for any help. (We have been to Venice before and want to stop for a few hours to show our daughter the Grand Canal, St. Marks, etc)
From RS Italy 2011, Rick says, "....although lines for baggage check maybe very long (at track 1, 4 euro/5 hours, daily 6:00-24:00, no lockers, 45-pound weight limit on bags)."
Thank you very much for the much needed information. Timing will be perfect and our bags are small. Maybe we can beat the rush and not have to stand in line too long.Should never leave home without an up-to-date RS!!!!
Both the Venice Santa Lucia and Venice Mestre train stations have a staffed luggage storage area (Biglietterie) as do many of the larger Italian train stations. Both of these Venice facilities are open from 06:00-20:30 according to the www.trenitalia.com website.
Thanks Larry. Now we know exactly where to go and be able to enjoy a few hours in Venice. When I was looking for information, I goggled the name of the train station and should have realized I needed to use the website name.
The www.trenitalia.com website has great information on services in the train stations. Unfortunately, it's all in Italian. When the website first comes up, click on "In Regione". Then, you need to know in which region the train station you want is located. For example, Venice is in the Veneto Region. La Spezia Centrale is located in the Liguria Region. Naples is in the Campania Region. The easy way to find out which Region the train station you want is located, Google the city on the internet and click on the Wikipedia choice. Wikipedia tells you the Region. On Trenitalia, click on the Region and you'll see more ions. You're on your own from there. Luggage storage is Biglietteri.
Thanks Larry. Now I have a better idea on how to get around on the website. It amazes me on how you and others really know these train websites and can help novices like me.
Thanks Joanne. It's really a hobby to continually scan and under stand the major country train websites. Others on this site do this as well. If you have other quesitons on the trains, please ask away.
