We will be spending two nights in Rome prior to a cruise and would like to store some luggage at Termini train station. Does anyone know if you can do that safely?
Yes, it is very safe to leave your luggage at Termini. I have not done it for years but here's what I remember...
The "left luggage" is on Termini’s lower level and used to be NOT TOO WELL signposted, but the directions are not difficult: You walk along platform 24 till you see some steps on your right. Go down those steps and you will find the luggage department right in front of you. You can also take the escalators down one floor, follow the signs for the Via Giovanni Giolitti exit and turn left before actually going back up again. After a couple of escalators you will see the luggage storage on your right.
The rates used to be... €3,80 for the first five hours. For the next 7 hours you pay €0,60 per hour and for every hour after that €0,20 per hour. That's based on the last time I used it...
The lines are often quite long but move quickly. If you're there when multiple international trains arrive, it can be really long. Just make sure you check out the hours of operation and know that picking up usually does not take as long as dropping off!
Ciao,
Ron
Bev, we have done four cruises out of Rome. You might want to rethink your luggage load. For two of us we get along very with three carryon size bags -- two backpack style and one rolling. If you use the train to the port, you will need to walk about mile from the station to the port entrance unless you are prepared to wait in some long lines.
Yes, it is safe and convenient to store luggage at Termini. They even X-ray it first to make sure it doesn't have explosives!
The previous posters directions and memory are correct. Right side of the Terminal, down platform 24, downstairs. There is an elevator, if needed. We used it last year with no problems. There was a line to check in and check out, but it moved quickly. Save your stub.
