WE are traveling on trains to several destination and was wondering whether to get a 22 or 24 inch. I would rather get a 24 inch if it fits on the overhead luggage compartment on trains. Or is 22inc standard
For Italy and Switzerland, the overhead racks on trains can handle your 24" luggage. The racks usually run the full length on both sides of the car. Plenty of room. Plus, there are luggage storage areas at the end of some cars although I would advise against placing luggage there unless you can lock it in with a cable and lock and can keep an eye on it. Luggage thieves in Italy are very good at removing luggage from those areas.
Yea, i agree the overhead is safer. Any thoughts on France and Netherlands?
The 24 inch bag should be OK everywhere.
Yep, 24 inch will fit everywhere we have been - my wife uses a 26 inch one and never had a problem in UK France Germany Italy Switzerland Austria Czech Republic. Be aware, however, that a few trains do not have an overhead rack, only at the end of the coach. If the train is not busy you can keep it beside you on the floor.
There are usually luggage racks at the end of the cars just as you enter. We used a luggage cable with lock.
