luggage on Frecciargento trains

I booked 4 tickets on Freciargento Train from Venice to Roma July 2 We have 4 uggages (2 med 2 large) I was told that the medium may fit above on the racks but the large may go in the luggage area that my Coach 4 has
Never travelled by train any help to ease worrying about the safety of these 4 luggages would be great. She did tell me it makes 3 quick stops and I could get up at that time and check my luggage.

How big is med, how big is large, mina? How many people to patrol all this luggage? 4 adults? - = - Your 3 "quick" stops are more likely 4. Venezia Mestre Padova
Bologna Firenze SMN and the stops will likely be a few minutes each, especially Firenze where the train has to change direction.

Luggage safety is a minor issue. While it is discussed all the time, there are relatively few, if any, reports of luggage being stolen. Most of the people on the trains are locals and where are they putting their luggage? In the bins. If it was a huge problem, the local would not be doing it. We throw our luggage in the bins and use a cable lock to secure the bags to each other and infrequently to a pole or some other attachment. Thought is that if someone was going to grab a bag, they are not going to drag along two or three other bags. It can be a bigger issue on regional trains that are more crowded with frequent stops.

What's the worst case? If you have your valuables in the overhead and somebody does take off with your luggage, you get to buy all NEW CLOTHES IN ITALY, to the envy of your friends back home. Don't worry so much about things like your luggage and enjoy the trip planning. You might also consider traveling light with Rick's packing advice. We use only a carry-on apiece and that's when we went on hunting trips and afterwards to London in the UK, Paris and the opera, and later Cape Town after a week long safari. You can do it.

24 inch bags sound pretty big to me to hoick up over your head into the fairly shallow racks overhead. I'd think all of the bags that large would need to be in the end of carriage bins. Those bins can get pretty full. Bags that big can be work getting on and off vaporettos in Venice too. Please leave extra time to get on and off the trains and to and from your hotels. If you get to the station early in Venice you will get first choice of the bins in your car. The only problem, of course, in putting your luggage under other people's is when you are on the approach to Rome you need somehow to dig yours out from under that put on top by later arrivals at Venice and people who joined at the intermediate stations. If your train ends its journey at Rome and doesn't continue south then you can just wait for everybody else to get theirs first. Do be sure to have your luggage by the door just before the train arrives in Rome if it continues south as the stop won't be exceedingly long. If you do look at the packing light hints by the sponsor of this Helpline you may find carrying the luggages is easier. Every time we go to Europe on holiday, especially if we are using the trains, we take less and less and try not to take anything which remains in the bag.

thanks for all the replys I will try using the cable lock as one of the suggestions to keep luggages together. Well Im down to 3 luggages now. Two mediums and 1 large, because we are in Italy for 4 weeks I thought I would need to bring a lot but I am going to look at this again. At the Venice airport I have been told to take the Alilaguna Blue Line that stops at San Zaccaria stop, its says no bridges to cross to B&B3C

You may be able to fit the two of the suitcases in the spaces between the seats. If you are in back to back seating, there is a gap between the seats where I have stored a larger than carry on sized suitcase. Plan on taking a cable lock however and locking your suitcases either together or to the rack just in case.
