Am interested in whether one can forward luggage by train station to station and have it held for a couple days or so? Some hotels offer this but this is a more general question.

I didn't use the SBB luggage service but observed a luggage line at staffed train stations. Passengers would retrieve their bags from the staffed station.

Yes, of course SBB will do this for you. It's quite a nice feature - but it's not free.
