Lufthansa - Random ticket cancellation

I cancelled a trip to Austria last November when they locked down again and Lufthansa was kind enough to give me a courtesy hold so that I could reschedule. I didn't expect a refund. I rebooked (required to pay a fare that was as high or higher than my original tickets, even though published rates were much cheaper) and my trip is coming up soon.

Oddly, the entire price I paid for my tickets just showed back up on my same credit card from last fall. My booking codes still showed my flights as confirmed and I could not make any headway with Lufthansa. I wasn't considering trying to fly for free.

I finally reached someone who confirmed they randomly cancelled my tickets and I could buy them again for the new much higher price. No way to go back and fix whatever mistake this was. I booked with another airline, also at today's much higher prices. Oh well.

Glad I found out, from my cc statement, that there was an issue so that I could resolve this before I was standing in the airport.

Has anyone else had Lufthansa just cancel their tickets even though the flight is still scheduled to go?

Wow, I also am glad that you were able to find this out in advance. I'm sorry that you had this happen, but it sounds like you handled it well.

I didn't try those particular words, but they were quite firm that there was nothing they could do and if I wanted to buy the tickets it had to be a that day's price. The day I rebooked, domestic carriers were offering the same price as Lufthansa and now I have improved peace of mind now and was able to continue my trip preparations without worry about whether they would honor my ticket, whether there would be a pilots strike etc... The only thing Lufthansa had the edge on was route and in the end it was not worth it.
