Lufthansa Gates

This is a matter of curiosity, as this has now happened twice. We flew Frankfurt to Philadelphia last July and this week. Both times, although there was certainly adequate room at the gate, the plane was not there and all had to go down several levels of stairs to then take buses and board in the parking lot (and to make this even dumber, the plane was way west and had to taxi across the airport to the east end). For some of the passengers, this was significant extra physical effort.

Since Frankfurt is essentially Lufthansa, does anyone have an idea why this flight is not at the gate?

It happened to me several times in Frankfurt, too. I think that they are still doing some reconstruction.

That's happened to me once or twice. The plane was a 747. I think they only have so many gates for the biggest jets, so some don't get a gate.

I have flown through Frankfurt many times and I can't even tell anyone the lay out. I was just telling our friends, that we are going to Italy with to be sure to pack light because when we get to Frankfurt you don't know what will happen. Anything from being bused to who knows where, to having to climb up or down several levels of stairs, it is ridiculous, I have kind of regretted taking this flight, but it worked out well with our schedule.

Our planes were a 330 and 340. Incidentally, we were also bused from our 737 from Amsterdam yesterday, a good thing we ahd not chosen the later plane with the 1 hour connection.
