Lufthansa Flights Still Expensive

I've been waiting... and waiting.... for fares to go down. I'm still looking at $1100+ from LA to Frankfurt. Our trip is middle of March. Someone on this board mentioned that I might find cheaper rates 90 days prior, but I'm not seeing them yet.

Can someone look in their crystal ball and tell me if fares should be coming down? Or should I buy now?

My crystal ball is rather fuzzy, but I'm going to hazard a guess that spring sales aren't here quite yet.

Of course, if you've limited yourself to only Lufthansa, that drastically limits your ability to fare shop. I would say $1100 is expensive for mid-March. I found fares of about $900 on American, which seems more reasonable.

As always, the best advice is to buy when you find a price you can live with.

Last summer I paid $530 RT Denver to Frankfurt, complete, in August. I think the days of those low fares might be over; $1100, non-stop from LAX might be what you get.

I just got a fare notice from one of the booking websites for $560 RT fare, Denver to Frankfurt on Lufthansa, with a stop in the eastern US. With taxes and fees, that was almost $700. That was for January to March; but I'm not looking to fly yet.

The best fares I was getting were 1-stop. If you are looking at non-stop LAX to FRA, you'll pay more. You might look at a connection somewhere in the East (however, I would avoid Newark or Philly at all costs) - Maybe DFW or ORD.

As for a crystal ball. Sorry. If I had one I would be making a fortune in the stock market.

Alexandra........wait...you can't loose. Every year, we face the same quandry; "when are they going to drop?" and then they finally drop.

Do you have and "Auto Notice " feature set up on some of the web sites? Some times I have had to wait up to 2 months before the flight to find seats for the price I want, but a few always show up.

Yes, I am stuck on a direct flight with Lufthansa to FRA also(we really enjoy them), but I will still check other direct flghts on other airlines to other cities in the EU.

I don't like to change planes in the US. Once I get to Europe I fly the lo-cost EU airlines to my final destination.

I have also been seeing somne "$700 1 stop" flights, but those always end up being "luggage loosers", and I hate that.

air in general has started to climb back up. I do not know if it is because it is the holidays and people are buying buying buying or if this is the new trend. Delta Vacations, where I am buying our upcoming trip to paris has increased by $100.00 and plus the sale that they had that they said lasted until november 2010 is no longer on their site [that kinda makes me mad]. you can book now, gable that it will go up or gamble that it will go down.

I just remember several months back the fares were running $700-$800 for non-stop on Lufthansa.
