We just received our Global Entry cards and are good to go--to Germany. We had already purchased our tickets on Lufthansa to Frankfurt. My husband called the airline to get our Global Entry numbers added to our tickets. He tried adding them online but they said you need to talk to a customer service rep. He talked to 3 different customer service reps yesterday. They all told him we need to pay for our tickets before global entry is added to them. But, we paid in full a month ago and have the confirmation number and receipt from Capital One. Then they said you have to pay 375.00 to reserve a seat. Again, we already reserved our seats and paid for it--although not 375.00. They said well you booked for premium economy and those seats are almost sold out but we have a seat reservation on our ticket. The sales reps were in a call center in India so they were probably following a script. (Maybe it wasn't translated correctly from German?) My husband finally gave up and we are driving to LAX to talk to a ticketing agent in person about this problem. Has anyone here had a similar experience before with Lufthansa?
You may want to start with Capital One since you booked the ticket with them.
Also, your GE # does nothing unless you are trying to get TSA PRE to show on your outbound flights. On your return, you just go straight to the GE line, take your pic and then get waived through
Also, first try pulling up your rez on the Lufthansa site and see what seats you have, etc. Use the 6 char record locator that you should have gotten from Capital One and go to Manage Rez/trips on the LH website or app
Also, confirm that your ticket is booked with LH and not a partner like United (UA ticket #s all start with 016)
Leslie, I recently purchased a ticket using Capital One Travel. The airline was KLM but Delta is operating the flight, so in order to reserve a seat, I had to go to the Delta website, using the 6 character alphanumeric number I got from Capital One.
The confirmation number provided by CapOne is way down at the bottom of the confirmation email. It will have a couple of letters in front but just use the last 6 alphanumeric characters. See sample here: Here’s your Capital One Travel confirmation code: A-B-00ABC0
After that, I went over to Delta to reserve the seat. Also Delta then gave me their own confirmation number, which I have to use to access my flight there.
Same thing with the second leg, which is booked on Tarom. I had to go to their website, log in with the KLM confirmation code and then reserve (and pay for) a seat.
ETA: And Arnold is correct in that you do not need a GE number in your Traveler number unless you are using TSA-precheck. I fly Delta a lot so my Known Traveler Number (KTN) is already in there.
When you spoke to Lufthansa....are you sure it was actually Lufthansa and not a scammer? Trying to charge you $375 to reserve a seat sounds like one of those travel websites that wants you to think you are talking to the airline but are actually talking to a third party adding on ridiculous charges.
You can also try this. Join Lufthansa's Miles and More frequent travel program. It doesn't cost anything. You can enter your Trusted Traveler number to your profile. Then, log into your reservation on Lufthnasa's website and add your Miles and More number to your reservation, Your Trusted Traveler number should show up.
Mardee, Yes we are using TSA pre-check which we didn't have prior to getting Global Entry.
Frank II, Great suggestions and we will join the rewards program on Lufthansa. Yes, it probably was a scam and a fake website!
FYI: We booked through Lufthansa on their website and used Capital One CC to pay for it. Now I have to confirm it was the real Lufthansa website and not a fake. (Is Capital One Travel is a different card?) The flight is being operated by Lufthansa but will confirm.
Thanks to everyone for your replies!
Ditto what Frank said.
Like you I get a phone popup for every Capital One charge. I think that’s what you are talking about.
It’s always worth it to set up an account with any airline you want to travel with. Then your purchase receipts and KTN and seat selections are all built in to every ticket, and the passport number.
Is Capital One Travel is a different card?
No, it's not a card. Now I understand—I thought you had booked through the COneTravel website. If you have a Capital One credit card, and accumulate enough reward points, you can book travel through their Capital One Travel website. I had a lot of points I wanted to use, so that's what I did. But in your case, charging it to Capital One makes no difference. If you booked online at the Lufthansa site, then you should be good to go.
And Frank makes a very good point. Not only will it allow you to add your KTN, but you will accumulate points. And that's almost always a good thing. Plus it can give you benefits. For example, on Delta's website, you can only use the free wifi if you have a SkyMiles account.
FYI: We booked through Lufthansa on their website and used Capital One CC to pay for it. Now I have to confirm it was the real Lufthansa website and not a fake. (Is Capital One Travel is a different card?) The flight is being operated by Lufthansa but will confirm.
Leslie, to confirm it, you should just need to go to the Lufthansa website: https://www.lufthansa.com/us/en/homepage
Click on My Bookings, then enter the 6 digit code and your last name, and your booking should show up there. You should have gotten a confirmation from Lufthansa, and the code should be in there.
Thanks Mardee! We just did that and we are good to go. We even have the seat assignments. I didn't know that Capital One had a travel website so will investigate further.
Regarding mileage rewards: We can add the Lufthansa miles to United which is the travel rewards plan we already have.
