I am trying to book from Lucerne to Milan on July 31 evening from bahn.de , but cant book online. I just saw it couple of days before and it was available online. I have train to catch from Milan to Rome that day. Did anyone experience like this before? Would it be advisable to purchase ticket once I am in Lucerne? Pls advise...still hoping to buy cheaper tickets online.

You can book that on the Swiss rail website, www.rail.ch. You will likely have one train change, at Arth-Goldau. You should still be able to get a Special Offer price for that date, but I did not check.

OK, I just checked. the 8:18 departure, which is one of the few direct trains ( no changes) still has Special Offer tickets left, 23 CHF instead of the regular fare of 78 CHF. I did not check later trains; left that for you.
