Lucca Parking Tips?

We will be driving to Lucca early April and I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the best areas to park in and any warnings on what to look for that you shouldn't park in. I read somewhere to be careful where white lines are because they are prohibited parking and that parking where blue lines are ok. Thanks!

Go to viamichelin.com, pull up the Lucca map, click Parking on the ribbon below the map, and it will show you a map of Lucca and where parking is located.Go here to read about parking in Italy and in some specific locations near Lucca (but not including Lucca) parking in ItalyThe SlowTrav site also explains about ZTL's, apparently Lucca has one, knowing how to avoid it will save you $125 per infraction.

And keep in mind, that someone just posted here that they had just received in the mail over a 1000 Euro worth of parking tickets. Are you sure you want to drive in Italy?

Yes, I'm sure..it's relative to how you approach your travels and prepare. I have lived in Europe for 3 yrs and did extensive driving throughout -except Italy. However, I have been there a few times. First, you should aquaint yourself with understanding the rules and language which I have and why I was double checking.

Lucca is a side trip for us but mainly we are at an agriturismo in San Gimignano where the car is parked most of the time - then we go to the Sorrento Hilton where we will just park it. I forgot I had a good map from when my daughter went which was in August 2008 of Lucca. It shows all the parking lots available which is where we will go. If someone has accrued 1000 Euro tickets, you gotta ask yourself what are they doing wrong too.

The most important thing is do your homework first and make sure it's a legitimate parking spot - paying the correct amount. I can speak enough Italian for a conversation too.

P.S...there is nothing like having the freedom of driving without worrying about schedules in my opinion. There are problems you can have with train travels too. It's all relative how you approach your travels. That's also why I always check Rick's site here for scam tips or any recent trips from abroad. It's the best site around!

If you're going to Lucca just for a day, park at the train station and walk in from there. I don't think there are ZTLs outside of the walls.
