There are some amazingly low fares available right now, for flying from San Francisco to Paris. For example, I just booked a round trip for 2 of us for less than $1800, including economy + upgrades on the outbound flight, Without the add-on, they would have been $677 each. Non-stop both ways. Leaving 8/27 and returning 9/22. There are several lower prices listed on Syscanner, especially if you are willing to accept 1 stop. The prices jump a bit after August 27, but they are still lower than I’ve paid in many a year. I imagine there might be similar deals from other airports.
I will add, somewhat wryly, that the airline (in this case United) is trying to make up for the lower prices by upping the cost for add-ons. We had to pay $200/pp for the economy +; and I noticed that while we, as United Visa card holders, get 1 bag checked free, a second would cost $100.
Having Norwegian Air Shuttle flying into Oakland may be why you have seen more reasonable European fares at San Francisco. The market appears to be using Norwegian as they keep adding more flights to Europe out of there. Paris comes onboard 4/10/2018.
Shop carefully and you may beat the cards you are quoting.
Absolutely. Competition in the Bay Area is having some nice effects. We got RT SFO-CDG April-May 2018 for $852 for two people (via Zurich on the return trip)
If you are willing to get away from using the big carriers dep from SFO or OAK, United, Lufthansa, Air France, Delta, then some very cheap, or dirt cheap flights are available. I was a bit impressed flying out of OAK with an overseas connection, going through TSA, etc. Maybe I just lucked out at that specific moment or hour.
We are about to pull the trigger on those flights for April! Nice to see.
My airfare cost on Norwegian out of Oakland is very comparable to the Paris cost for Laura. . I'm flying direct to Rome apr 25 to May 12 for $419 rt.
niiiiiiice!!
Recently purchased Lufthansa tickets Denver to Munich to Paris and return Paris to Munich to Denver for early May. Less than $700 per ticket, included all taxes, etc.!
The inexpensive fares are dwindling. We vacillated yesterday and stopped to fix lunch. When we got back on Air France's website the price per person had jumped by about $300 per person for the early April dates we liked. While I took a walk to "cool off", DH looked about a week later and found some more $500 fares. So now we are leaving on April 11th and not returning until May 4th. Doesn't match up as well with our exchange family's dates but it gives us an excuse to spend 5 extra nights at the end in Paris, a win win.
Flexibility as to date (and occasionally airport) is so very helpful when you're looking for bargain fares. I saved about $200 on this year's flights by departing on April 30 rather than May 1.
