Low cost carriers vs full service airlines?

I need a round trip from Amsterdam to Prague. There are options on KLM (good because I'm a Delta flyer), Easyjet, or Czech Airlines. I'll likely be traveling with only a large backpack (it will fit in the overhead been of a 767). I'm wondering if I would be better off spending a little more for KLM and not stress about having to pay last minute for checking my backpack or if I should be ok with a backpack of that size. I don't know much about Czech Airlines but their prices are comparable to Easyjet. Any advice is appreciated.

*The backpack is a Kelty Redwing 50

Check the requirements regarding size and weight of carry on luggage. They vary airline by airline. A knapsack this large would not be allowed as carry on in most cases. It seems that carriers in Europe are stricter than on international flights.

Discount airlines make a lot of money enforcing carry on rules. The fact that it will fit in an overhead doesn't mean that it was acceptable for carry on. We like easyJet but they are strict. Have no idea about Czech.

The size dimensions look to be beyond what most airlines define as carry on.
I suspect you get it in the bin by setting it in 'sideways', to the frustration of other passengers. Or is it only partially filled, so as to fit properly into a bin?

As others have said, the common wisdom is that the European airlines are stricter about carry-on.

There is no leeway with discount airlines. Add on all their supplemental costs and see if u save enuf to make the decision. Also it may leave out or go,in to a secondary airport which may or maynot matter to you.
