Low airfares

I will be taking the Best of England tour beginning in late September, and have been somewhat anxious about airfares. Fares on major airlines for my route MSP to/from LON (and probably most others as well) have been quite high ($1100 or so RT) for many weeks, after being much lower in Jan-Feb when I was considering this trip. However, starting yesterday there has been a significant drop in airfares. I booked a flight for $683 r/t on Delta, lower than fares to Europe that I have paid in past years. Some fares on AA and Delta today are even lower. This doubtless does not apply to all dates, routes and airlines, but now might be a good time to shop for your flights!

Wow, that is fabulous. There was just an announcement recently (yesterday??) that Norwegian will be flying from both Seattle and Denver to Gatwick so maybe this is having an impact?

I'm not expert, but I suspect the effect of the low-cost carriers is rather modest in this example, because Icelandic, Condor, Norwegian, etc. just don't have that many seats to/from Europe compared to the majors like Delta, American, United, etc.

Oh, and by the way, the costs for the flights I have been tracking seem to have jumped back up into the $1100 range today, from the low-to-mid $600 range the previous 2 days. Lesson learned is to keep looking and be ready to move quickly.
