LOT Airlines - flight change & refunds

Well, I thought I got a good deal with one direct flight to Central Europe, however this week got notice that the return leg of the journey was no longer running on my intended day. There was one a day before (which would interrupt vacation plans), and one two days after (which would interrupt work plans). There was a flight the day after (and I even got an extra day off from boss) but that would entail a 23 hour layover in Warsaw.

Anyway they sent an email with estimated refund. I'm thinking of buying a one way ticket on the date I had planned for and it will be at least an additional $250. The letter says to apply for refund after I've taken part of journey on first part of ticket. So this would mean shelling out for an additional ticket, before even being able to apply for refund. It's not ideal but doable I guess.

Still wondering, any experiences with LOT refunds? Thanks in advance.

Sounds like an opportunity to me. Make some lemonade...

Thanks all. Usually I would try to make Warsaw cherry-lemonade out of lemons, however my plan for the short trip was to start in Warsaw -- and the return leg flight the next day would make me late for return to work with long layover. Currently on the phone now with a LOT agent. (This would have been easier if they hadn't cancelled return flight lol)

Do any of the Star Alliance airlines e.g., UAL, Lufthansa, Turkish or Air Canada among others, have a flight on the 'correct' date?

Hi yes I ended up with Swiss Airways (owned by Lufthansa) for both parts of the trip. Lost the direct flight over, and a little more expensive than LOT, but simpler this way. It would make me uncomfortable to have two tickets in place and not be able to cancel until I got to Central Europe. Thanks for good suggestion
