Los Angeles to Berlin.... Airline Suggestions?

We're planning to meet extended family for a huge reunion in Germany, March 2010. I'd like to fly LA to Berlin, do the stuff we need to do, drive all over, and return out of Frankfurt back to LA.

I've searched for a direct flight to Berlin but haven't found one. Seems like the direct flights all go to Frankfurt or Munich. What airlines fly to Berlin via 1 stop? Is there a great website where I can plug in all my info (including the return flight change) and get the best deal? I'm finding I have to search every airline's website (and getting frustrated).

You might want to try Expedia for a choice of airlines and prices but I travel to Berlin every year and there is no direct flight from North America. British Airways will take you via London and Lufthansa and with most other airlines you will have to change in Frankfurt. Dont know if Air Berlin flies from LA but even then it wont be a direct flight.

To the person who said there are no USA-Berlin flights ...

My mother flew Continental Seattle-Newark and Newark-Berlin earlier this year.

I don't think there are any flights to the west coast from Berlin, but certainly the Continental flight exists if you are willing to take the time penalty of flying trans-continental before flying trans-atlantic.

Given that there are no direct flights to Berlin from LAX, it'll be a lot faster to connect through a large European hub like Frankfurt, Munich, London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc to Berlin than via the US East Coast.

There is www.airberlin.com from LAX via DUS to Berlin TXL airport. Alternatively there is Lufthansa from LAX via FRA to TXL. Air Berlin offer better service in coach then Lufthansa does, also it's easier to change in smaller DUS than huge FRA airport. Sign up to the Air Berlin newsletter as they come up with special deals every couple of weeks...
