Phone apps for transportation in Italy

Hello Fellow Travelers,

I'm looking for phone apps for my upcoming trip to Italy.
I will be traveling mainly in Tuscany and Umbria via public transportation.
I've already found a few apps (such as Trenìt for trains) but would like to know which other ones you've found helpful.

Has anyone used the Tiemme-mobile app for buses in Tuscany?

Side note: I do realize that having a car would be ideal for visiting this beautiful Italian countryside, however, I've decided not to rent a car for this trip.

Thanks everyone!

Priscilla

Check out movit on the web. This app does cover Rome and Naples in real time, not sure about Tuscany. Rome2Rio for planning. Web search for transportation apps pop up several for review by tech savvy individuals for use in the states and europe. movit is on my IPAD and helpful with planning, no review for real time yet!

Priscilla,

Some of the Apps I've found useful are.....

  • Trainline
  • Rome2Rio
  • Deutsche Bahn
  • SBB
  • InfoTreni (similar to Trenit)

I believe most of them require internet access, so may not be usable without Wi-Fi or cellular data.

Thanks SlWolf, Ken and Harold!

I will check all the apps you mentioned.

I forgot to mention that I have an iPhone (5s).

Priscilla, I wish I had something useful to offer. I did have Trainline on my recent trip to Tuscany and Umbria, which was very useful for my train trips, but as you've noted yourself, much of your local travel will be on buses, and I haven't used the bus app (my husband ended up coming to meet me with a rental car).

I did go ahead and save, for example, the numbers for the 4 or 5 taxi drivers that I found on the Orvieto website in my phone so I would have them in case of need (I didn't end up using them but thought that way I wouldn't have to go guessing.)

I hope you have a great time on your trip!
