Looking for low cost air travel in Italy

Traveling from Bonassola (Cinque Terre)to Naples, then Naples to Venice. I have found that Alitalia flys from Pisa to Rome then to Naples but they are expensive. Found Air One very afordable flite from Naples to Venice 115.38 EUR total for two (not each). Does anyone have some suggestions. Thanks George

Two good search engines for budget airlines in Europe are www.whichbudget.com and www.skyscanner.net.

However, I can't refrain from asking why you want to fly on such short routes when train travel is frequent, comfortable, relaxing, and much less harmful to the environment. And if you take night trains, you can save the cost of a night in a hotel and have more daylight hours for sightseeing. You can go Bonassola-Chiavari-Napoli, with the Chiavari-Napoli leg on a night train. You can take a direct night train from Napoli to Venezia Santa Lucia.

Hi Tim
Thank you for the information Tim I like your suggestion of train travel at night. I was thinking of flying because my cousin who lives in Napoli suggested flying as he felt train travel could be dangerious at night if you try to sleep with the possibility of being robbed. If that is true do you know if their is a way to sleep and be safe? Like a secure sleeper car or somthing else?
Thanks Again

George, I've only taken night trains in France so I can't comment on whether or not theft is more likely on Italian night trains. However, couchettes (four or six bunks) and sleepers (two or three beds) all lock from the inside. Granted, the people sharing space with you could rob you; but if you take standard precautions like sleeping with your money belt and other valuables, I think you'll be fine. You could also use a bicycle cable lock to secure your bag to a rack and small locks on any zippered compartments you choose.

For detailed timetables, go to www.bahn.de. Click on "English" in the upper right-hand corner. After getting summary timetables for a particular departure point and arrival point, click on "Details for all" to see the connecting points.

For fares as well as timetables, go to www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html. Look for Smart Price fares. Since new timetables will be issued throughout Europe around 9 December, enter a date prior to that.
