Looking for experience with RyanAir carry on

I am aware of the 55x40x20 carry on size for Ryan Air. I know they will require me to put my carry on in a box to verify the size. I created a 55x40x20 cardboard box to verify the size of my carry on. The top carry handle sticks out above the cardboard box marginally, like 1/2cm. Will this be accepted? Should I just get a smaller bag?
If I can share a picture of it I would, but I am not sure I can do that on the forum.

It is a soft sided but that won't help. The 40 side and 20 side are fine. It's the 55 side. It's the pull handle that sticks above about 1/2 cm.

The answer is....it's up to the gate agent. Ryanair makes a lot of money from forcing people to check luggage. You might get lucky but it is always best to stick to the rules.

That being said, can the handle push down or is it rigid? (If the top of the bag is soft, the handle should push down. If not, you have to take the risk. ) Try putting it in your cardboard box top down first and see if it fits.

Frank II- Thanks I will try it upside down when I get home. The top of the soft side clears the 55cm it's just the handle that sticks out a minimal amount. It can not be forced down any more.

The brand is Protege Monticello 21" Carry On Luggage.
