Does anyone have any ideas for a cheap 3-4 month car rental in France? I've been offered free winter lodging in a tiny hamlet in the mts. near Saissac, but need to be able to get out from time to time.

For that long a period, look into lease/buyback rather than rental. Both Renault & Peugeot have programs. www.renaultusa.com www.peugeot-openeurope.com/lang=en/

Be sure you understand the Schengen rules on stays of that length. You need a special visa for stays of more than 90 days.

You'll have to compare prices for rentals at various sites including autoeurope and gemut. Also look at Sixt which has consistently been cheaper in my experience, including the lease deals, but I've not been in France for as long as you plan to be. Check the Renault and Peugeot leases, then go with what works for you.

I second the recommendation for Autofrance.net. We just made arrangements for our 5th lease through them. Always helpful and professional.
