Has anyone had experience with the London travelcard? It looks to be a good value with the LondonPass included, but I'm wondering if there's some small print that I might have missed.
I will be in London 7 days
I completely agree. For most people the London Pass is a poor value. You would have to do too much running around from place to place in a very short time to make it pay off. Even if you get the pass, I definitely would not get the Travelcard that comes with it for the reasons Tim stated.
Thank you for the help! This is my first vacation out of the US and it's a little daunting. How do the 2 for 1 admission tickets work?
IMO, the London Pass is NOT a good deal, especially the travel portion. Why pay for a card that covers zones 1-6 for seven days when the only times you'll likely venture beyond zone 2 are coming in from the airport and returning to the airport. Most major museums in London are free. Buy individual tickets for the ones you visit that aren't. You'll do much better buying an Oyster card at Heathrow. Load a 7-day, zone 1-2 travelcard (£29.20) on it. And load some pay-as-you-go pounds on it to cover your rides from the airport to London and back. You can add more PAYG pounds, if needed. When you return to Heathrow you can get a refund on any unspent PAYG pounds. Are you traveling alone or with someone else? If with someone else, you can get 2-for-1 offers that cover the Tower of London and many other sights by buying zone 1-2 paper travelcards with the National Rail logo on them at any National Rail station (not Heathrow). Go here to see a list of the offers and to print vouchers for the ones that interest you. Buy Oyster cards at Heathrow and load only PAYG pounds on them to cover your rides from the airport to London and back.
Cherie If you follow the link in Tim's post 2 above yours it has all the official information. If you look at that and like it you will find hints here about how to work the tickets.
Several people on this and other threads have said to purchase an Oyster Card or 7-Day Card at Heathrow. Where at Heathrow? That is a big airport.
Roy - The Oyster card is sold at the tube station in Heathrow.
The Underground Station.
