I know I need to do my own research, and I HAVE BEEN, but I was just wondering if anyone is willing to offer advice. We will fly into Gatwick from Ireland on 20th (tuesday) and will arrive around noon. We want to stay in London that night, then probably do a day trip on both Wednesday and Thursday and Friday (though it is not set in stone yet), but stay in London at night. Sat, Sun, and Monday morning we will be in Cardiff, but return Monday afternoon. We want to spend Monday afternoon, Tuesday, and Wednesday exploring London, but will leave from Stansted on the 29th, Thursday. We are only two people, so of course the 2for1 deals would be nice, but it seems we wont be in London for 7 full days. Any advice? Anyone done something similar? Our Cardiff plans ARE set in stone (Doctor Who Convention, of course). Thanks :) Please don't respond rudely if you aren't going to help, I'm already stressed out of my mind planning!!
Katie, The rail station travelcards do come in a one-day variety. What you could do is use travelcards on some of the days and an Oyster card with pay-as-you-go on other days. I would suggest is that you look at the 2 for 1 offers and see which ones you expect to take advantage of. If you have a day that you want to use a 2 for 1 offer and it will save you some money, then you could buy a rail travelcard for that particular day and use it instead of Oyster. Keep in mind that you need to buy the rail travelcard at one of the rail stations. For the days where you don't use any of the 2 for 1 offers, just use your Oyster card pay-as-you-go. If you want a refund of your Oyster before you leave, use only cash to pay for the card initially and to top it up. Also, keep in mind that rail tickets themselves make you eligible to use the 2 for 1 under certain circumstances so if you have a rail ticket to London on one day and departing a couple of days later, you may be able to use 2 for 1 for the interim time. You will need to read through the terms on the 2 for 1 page to see if this can be applied to your situation. Enjoy your trip. Laura
Shouldn't stress. Here are the options to get from Gatwick to London http://www.gatwick-airport-guide.co.uk/transport.html Seems to be some discounts depending on your mode of travel. Try the airbnb website for you dates and budget. Stay within zones 1 & 2.
Maybe something by Victoria station so you'll be able to take the bus to Stansted.
Ah! Thanks so much for the advice. I feel better already!
