London to Port Isaac

Hello - I will be traveling from London to Port Isaac next month (June, 2013). Any suggestions on getting there? Seems trains and buses are needed. Many thanks.

The same, but in reverse. Either go back to Paddington and get the Heathrow Express to the airport, or get off when your train stops at Reading, from where there is a 'RailAir' or similar bus service to Heathrow. I think all those trains do stop at Reading, but it's best to check when you book.

The first part is easy. London Paddington to Bodmin Parkway, it's a First Great Western train, takes 3 hours 40 minutes. Check timetables and buy tickets on the FGW website. Then it gets interesting. Port Issac is about 18 miles from Bodmin Parkway. According to an old post I found on TripAdvisor, you need the number 555 bus to Wadebridge from Bodmin Parkway, then the 584 from Wadebridge to Port Issac. Details at www.westerngreyhound.com

Thank you! I'm hoping one of the Port Isaac hotels might help with a taxi from the train station.
Any tips on getting from Port Isaac to Heathrow and hotels there?

Aha! A "Doc Martin" pilgrimage. We love that show (my husband is a doctor and would love to say some of the things Doc Martins says to his patients. . . be he can't). Let us know how you like it!

Deb, I'm also a big fan of Doc Martin, and hope to get to Port Issac one day (I almost added it to the Itinerary for this year - maybe next year?). I'll be renting a car, which is my usual method for getting around more "rural" parts of the U.K. Happy travels!

I wish Deb would give an on how her trip went. Yes, thanks to Doc Martin, I will be spending a few days in Port Isaac next July, 2014. A long ways from Upstate NY, so any information I can find will be helpful. I will print off the information here and give it to my travel agent. Thanks to everyone for the tips.
