My wife and I are traveling to Europe next summer. We will be spending three nights in London, three nights in Paris, and six nights in Munich. We would like to travel by Eurostar from London to Paris, and then by TGV from Paris to Munich. However, booking the trains in advance is very confusing if not treacherous. I would appreciate any assistance.
I think (?) you will find booking the EuroStar from London to Paris on the Eurostar website (www.eurostar.com) fairly straightforward. Correspondingly, booking the Paris to Munich train on the German Rail website should not be that confusing.
London-Paris: Book up to 120 days in advance at eurostar.com to get a discount fare as low as $42.50. Print your own tickets. Paris-Munich: Book up to 92 days in advance on the German Rail site to get a Europa-Spezial Frankreich fare as low as €39.00. Print your own tickets.
Paris to Munich is not just TGV. When you look at the current Bahn website schedule, you will find there is one direct TGV connection from Paris to Munich late in the day (15:24-21:36). However, there is an ICE connection changing in Mannheim and some TGV/ICE connections changing in Stuttgart, all getting to Munich earlier. The Paris to Munich high speed route is popular, and the lowest tier Savings Fare tickets sell out quickly, so if your schedule is firm 92 days in advance, buy them when the fare is low.
