London to Harry Potter Studio by train...

Should i buy train tickets in advance (prior to leaving for the UK), or can I buy tickets from London to Watford Junction easily at a moments notice when I'm there?

There's absolutely no need to buy in advance, it's only just outside London.

Watford is a large town on the edge of London, Watford junction is a major station with many trains per hour to and from London Euston, plus other destinations. These are commuter trains, you cannot reserve seats on these trains. Just turn up and buy a ticket.

There are two services, one is the "Overground" with 17 stops between Euston and Watford Junction and takes 52 minutes. The other are faster "London Midland" commuter trains where Watford Junction is the first or second stop and they continue to other commuter towns further out; these take only 16 minutes and overtake the "Overground" trains.

What about the actual tickets for the Harry Potter Studio? Do we need to buy them before departing the US? We are travelling in July.

Train is easily done on site. However, if you wait until you get to UK to get tickets to Harry Potter, you may not get them. We ordered tickets in August for Dec 24 and when we tried to change the date in early November, could not do so.

Yes buy your HP studios tix in advance. They sell out and you can't buy tickets at the studios themselves only online. Like others say just buy your train tix at the station in London.

You'll be sitting in traffic for way longer than the sixteen minutes the faster trains take, in not-very-attractive parts of north London.

Terri Lynn, have you actually used the viator bus to do the Studio tour? I'm surprised to see you give such glowing praise for it because there have been several people on this Helpline who reported bad experiences with the, including having to take much longer, and much slower, as well as having to wait a long time to get back on the bus when finished with the tour.

How recent was your experience?

When you say that they take you to all the sites, what other sites do you mean? The way I read it they take you from Victoria to the studio tour and back. Where else did you go?

By the way, there is a Harry Potter bus that takes you to and from the train station to the studio lot. The cost, where to catch it, and times are all in the Harry Potter website. The bus is coordinated with train arrivals and depatures, so don't wander off or delay too long when you get off the train.
We did the train and bus couple years ago and it was very easy.
