Anyone have insight into which route is the more scenic? Via Paris or via Brussels?
Any other ideas as to why one option might be preferable over the other?

There's not much difference scenically, but you can only get the cheap Deutsche Bahn single tickets (usually three months in advance from www.bahn.com, but recently tickets have been reported on sale up to six months before, so try now) on the route via Brussels. Also, the route via Brussels involves a simple cross-platform change at Brussels Midi, whereas via Paris you need to walk through the streets between Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est in Paris.
