London Gatwick airport to Canterbury.

We (two of us) are arriving in Gatwick at 5:15 PM on May 7th, and continuing on to Canterbury to join the RS Villages of South England tour. I don't want to purchase advance train tickets to travel from Gatwick to Canterbury in case the flight is delayed. Walk-up train tickets appear to cost around 45 pounds each. Another travel option would be a car service that would cost just a little more than two train tickets.
Which is the better option - train or car service?

The train is easy, but if you will just be arriving from the US and feeling jetlagged I would choose the car service since it's not much more than the 2 train tickets.

It isn't clear whether the £45 you are quoting is meant to be for 1 ticket or 2.

The not via London train price is £20.90 each and you can't beat this pricewise with an advance via London. Timewise it is only 10 minutes or so slower.
