Georgie,
Really depends on how much you want to do and what type of meals you are looking for. We spent 3 full days in Paris 2 weeks ago. The first 2 days we used the Museum Pass that was 30 Euros apiece so our average sight costs for those 2 days was 15 euros. You'll also need to factor in a couple of metro ride costs each day as well so that you aren't killing yourself walking, unless your hotel/hostel is located in the middle of a sightseeing zone. The Museum Pass is great because it really adds up on the savings after a few sights, plus there were some things we went to that i'm glad were covered by the Pass and that we hadn't paid straight out of our wallet. We saved the 3rd day for sights or activities that we wouldn't need the pass.

We were trying to do our trip on a budget so we normally spent 20-22 euros a day on food. At least that was a budget for us. Neither of us is a big breakfast person and we had breakfast bars already with us. We'd usually have 1 meal on the cheap 5-7 euro each and then have a nicer meal for 13-17 euro each. We are big fans of crepes and there's plenty of crepe stands (or other sandwhich type places) to get a filling ham and cheese (about 4-5 euro) or other similar filling meal pretty cheaply either at lunch or dinner.

That is a question that is nearly impossible answer beyond it depends --- for one person it could be $100/day for another $200. But let me give you a rough bench mark. If going to a major metro area in the US -- Chicago, New York, etc, -- what do you think you would spend each day ? Double it for London and add about 75% for Paris. When we were in London last September the prices in pounds appeared to nearly equal to what we would have paid in the US in dollars. A Starbuck coffee was 2.75 pounds and we would pay about $2.75 in the local Starbuck.
