Does anyone have recent experience with the 7 day London Travel Card with 241 admission to various attractions? It is the one that you buy at the Rail stations (not the Underground). I'd like to know if it is really as good as it sounds. Any problems using the vouchers at the sites? Any problems getting the vouchers? Thanks.
Hi Ellen,
We are in Scotland now but used the 2-4-1 travel card two weeks ago on our week in London. Personally, we loved using the travel card for transportation and for sites. We NEVER had a problem using it for 2-4-1 sights. Everyone seemed very knowledgeable that it exists. All the sight ticket people knew immediately. I had printed out a bunch of "vouchers" at home before I left (it doesn't matter which station you choose). When you buy your 2-4-1 7-day travel card, do make sure to ask for the 2-4-1 offers. They'll hand you a booklet that has lots of blanks in it. You just fill them out as needed if you haven't printed them at home. Perhaps you already know you need a passport-sized photo for the 2-4-1 card? In any case, you can scan the photo in your passport, print it out at home and give it to whichever station you go to, when you buy the card. They will give you a little credit card-sized vinyl folder. One side will hold your ID with photo (that they assemble) and the other will hold that paper travel card. You'll use that paper travel card every time you go in and out of a turnstile. You put it in the turnstile slot and out it pops and then the little doors open to let you through. Grab your card and zip through. It happens very fast. When you visit a 2-4-1 sight, they will often want to see the little vinyl wallet with your photo. It will become very automatic for you. Don't worry. You will absolutely understand the system. Even if you stumble, people will be forgiving. You will need to figure out where to buy that 2-4-1 7-day travel card at at station that provides that rail service. You will figure it out if you keep researching, and searching on the ricksteves.com website. I know it feels confusing, but when you get here in London, the system becomes apparent.
BTW, Ellen, you have posted this question in the "trip reports" section. If you want more answers, post the question in the travel forum under "England."
