My husband and I are interested in taking a detour through the Loire Valley while enroute from Paris to Madrid. I'm having a hard time finding what trains to take that will get us from the Loire over to Madrid. We were thinking of staying in Tours or Amboise. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
We rented a car in Tours and drove to Spain. A car lets you look at the Loire and then head south. The Dordogne is a good stopping place and beautiful. You could drive towards Barcelona and return your car in France and save the extra cost of returning a car in another country. Along the Med. coast there are towns that you could drop off a car and catch the train to Barcelona and then two hours to Madrid by fast train. Have a great time.
Thanks so much for your thoughts!! We really appreciate it!
Alternatively, you could pick up a rental car in the Paris area on your way out. Either way, unless you do an organized bus tour, you really need a car to see the Loire.
