Locarno, Switzerland to Cinque Terre by Train

I am having difficulty finding schedules and fares for a cross-border trip from Locarno to Corniglia. Once getting to Milan, is it best to look for a train to La Spezia and then backtrack to Corniglia? Or, is there a train directly from Milan to Levante on the western side? We will leave Locarno as early as possible to arrive in Corniglia before evening?

Which website are you using? And what dates? The schedules for dates after June 12 (for Italy) aren't up yet, so try a date before them the same day of the week you will be traveling.

I like to use the Swiss site rail.ch for planning, but I don't know if it will show you the fares into Italy.

Right now, the shortest trip I see for you leaves Locarno at 8:45 and gets you to Corniglia at 14:30---less than 6 hours. For that one you change at Sestri Levante to the local train that makes a stop at Corniglia. That way you avoid backtracking.

Thank you! I had tried almost every other rail site to no avail. The rail.ch site was the "ticket" (pardon the pun).
