If I buy a point to point ticket in Italy (say from Milan to Parma) can I leave the train at a stop then get back on? or do I have to buy tickets to each destination? Also, will there be senior discounts on local tickets? Thanks
You can do that with regional trains in Italy. There are no reservations permitted on regional trains. You ticket is good for 24 hours from time validated or until you reach you destination. No discounts on regional trains. Any other train will require a seat reservation and separate ticket for each leg. And, again, no senior discounts.
i echo what frank said...some of my favorite italy experiences involve taking a local train between two larger cities and getting off in the small towns to explore. i know that sounds kind of corny, but if you are interested in that kind of thing, i highly recommend the line from siena to empoli. enjoy your trip!!!
