I'm having a hard time finding a bus from city center Ljubljana to Rovinj. Any body have any suggestions? We would like a bus on a Sunday.
I looked at this for someone else a week or so ago. There is a daily bus run by Veolia for Ljubljana to Rovinj. Veolia is the same company that picks up my trash. Yes, I was surprised by this.
Thanks so much Sam. On the Veolia schedule, it has Rovinj listed at the bottom at 246 km, departing at 7pm and arriving at 8am. Is this possible? All other mapping research that I've done shows the travel distance at 185km and taking around 2 hours. What do you think? Does anybody else have any answers? This I'm reading this correctly, I might have to splurge on a car. ugh. thanks!
I read the schedule as departing Ljuljana at 1:45 pm, and arriving Rovinj 7:06 pm. Yes, its a milk run, stopping at every town along the way. Read down from the top going to Rovinj. Read up from the bottom going to Ljubljana. Its mileage is more than viamichelin because it follows the coast road much of the way, not the most direct route you would take if you were driving.
Sam! Thank you so much for helping me figure that out! Since we are traveling from Pittsburgh, PA, I think we'll sleep over in Ljubljana then get the bus the following day. That city looks beautiful too! Thanks again.
Glad I found this thread. I, too, was planning to travel by bus from Ljubljana to Rovinj - in May of 2014. However, I discovered the service you have linked to only runs Jund 25 - August 31. I wrote the Slovenian Tourist office asking if there were alternatives, and received the following reply: We would like to thank you for your message about Slovenia. You can travel by bus Ljubljana-Rovinj only during summer (June 25-August 31). We suggest you to travel by car (rent a car)
OMG! Thank you so much for letting me know. What a huge disappointment!
Hmm. Well, I know things change, but I can tell you this: in May 2012, we took a small bus (maybe 24 seats) from Portoroz, Slovenia, to Rovinj, Croatia. It stopped several times en route, and took about 2-3 hours. Don't recall the name of the bus company, but I would continue searching - there may still be an option (despite what the tourist office said). The bus on that route only ran 2 days a week in May (last year).
