Ljubljana to Munich. Train or bus?

I'm finding myself requiring to travel from Ljubljana to Munich. Direct train and bus connections are both available, and the bus seems to be the superior option on paper for the following reasons:

  • IC Bus is faster: 4h54m vs 6h19m for train.
  • IC Bus is cheaper: €19 vs €39 for train.

However, as I've not done this particular route previously, I'd just like to see if anyone had some experience to share for this journey. Are there compelling scenery or experiences that would make the train seem more attractive over the seemingly better bus option?

I am definitely more of a train person - they are just more comfortable for me and definitely have more room to move around if desired. I also like the ability to grab a cold beverage and a snack.

If you do ride the bus just be sure and wear your bus pants. ;)

Under five hours on a bus, which might not have as much room to move around as a train, vs 6+ hours on the train. In my opinion, a wash. But 19€ vs 39€, I'd take the bus.

A few years ago we took the RS Eastern Europe tour which ended at Lake Bled...middle of nowhere but a beautiful area. It is not too far from Ljubljana. We were wondering how we were going to get home from there. Our guide made it easy for us all to find the train which would take us back to Munich, a very enjoyable ride.

We've taken buses and trains in Europe and it depends on the on the schedule as much as the cost. The bus from Nurnberg to Prague was direct and cheap. Much more convenient than the train so we took that. If the schedule and budget allows then for an extra €20, basically double the cost, I'd take the train. I wouldn't want to be sitting on a bus for 5 hours if I didn't have to do so.

Thanks for the insight everyone! (A decision has yet to be made on what option, but at least I have more information in hand.)
