Ljublijana to Venice

We are researching travel options for Ljublijana to Venice. Air fare seems a bit high, so we are wondering if there are any trains that are feasible. Rail Europe doesn't have any schedules - are there any other options that people know of? Thanks in advance for any help!

It's 150 miles. Flying???? Really???? There are a number of trains, but those travel times are also a bit excessive and indirect (5-7 hours). By bus; www.drd.si/en It's three hours and Euro25 one way.

Jonathan,
My wife and I travelled from Lake Bled to Venice on Nov. 20,2011. I'm sure the train we caught came via Ljublijana. We departed Lake Bled at 9:55 to Villach and then took the express bus to Venice. We got to Venice at 14:20. About 2 hours faster than going by train only. The bus was easy to find, right in front of the train station. The bus had a bathroom which pleased the wife. Look on the DB website and you will see different options.

I have read elsewhere that there are no longer any trains running between Venice and Ljubljana. Don't know for sure - I'm not trying to go between these cities, but was researching other Slovenian rail routes and came across people (who appeared to know what they were talking about) state that as fact. If you're not finding any trains for that route on the major train websites (have you tried the DB one?), that could be why. FWIW, in researching lots of travel options for an upcoming trip to Slovenia and Croatia, it appears that many options that had been available previously are now no longer available - ferries, trains and bus lines seem to be shrinking there. Might be part of the overall economic downturn and Euro currency crisis (or maybe they're just really flakey about making up-to-date schedules easily available - I suspect it's probably a bit of both). Hope that helps.
