List of deals for Old farts?

I remember reading where seniors over a certain age do not have to pay to ride the local bus/transportation system, irrespective of citizenship. Unfortunately, my aged brain forgot what city/country that was. So I thought it would be helpful if a list of fare reductions or free passes for visiting seniors could be collected. Lists by city or country would be most appreciated.

So, if you know of "deals" for seniors within Europe, please share.

Well, Budapest for the public transportation (i dont know about other cities) and Hungary for the trains. Prague too, I think, for public transportation. (The link above is Budapest, not Hungary).

Yes, public transportation in Prague is free for the over 65 set.

In Great Britain, you can buy a senior railcard (35 GBP one year, 80 GBP three years) and you get 1/3 off most rail fares. You do need to do the math to see if it will save you money. I bought a three year card and have made 3 trips to the UK in the two years since I purchased it. The amount I saved on my first two trips exceeded the cost of the railpass (it used to be 70 GBP).

National Express do an £18 coachcard for a year for the over 60's.
On Tuesday to Thursday a £15 flat fare, single or day return if booked at least 3 days ahead (not to airports). All other days 1/3 off fares.
In October (my next currently scheduled trip) I'm doing Glasgow to Bristol for £15 as an example.

All public transport is free within Luxembourg, not just for over 65s.

But in Luxembourg a Big Mac combo meal is 15 euro and a local beer can cost 6 euro. So the transportation to the restaurant has to be free. ;-)

It's still cheaper to buy a beer in Luxembourg than it is in Sydney ...

lavandula, I was in Sydney on a return trip about this time last year .... yes, some of the prices were suprising. But I enjoy the city. I got talked into to going of NYE several years ago. I fought it and then after a few days there I regretted not having gone sooner in life. My guests that have been here in Budapest the past two weeks are from someplace outside of Sydney. Cant remember the name. Lovely place down on the coast.

Hungarian beer starts at about 2 euro and rarely is above 3 euro except at 5 star venues like the veranda of the Budapest W hotel.

Is there such a list in Europe Through the Back Door? I looked at AARP site but couldn't find anything useful there. A list would be nice to have, eh?

Seniors (65 and over) can travel anywhere within Belgium outside of rush hour for €8.50. That fare is also good for same-day round-trips. It seems that you can make free stops along the way, too, though I have never done that.

France sells a discount card for seniors that can be worthwhile, depending on your itinerary.

Italy has a senior discount card one must apply for, but it is free (I think it still is). I believe the card doesn't provide a discount on cheap, regional train tickets.

Most Slovak trains are deeply discounted for those 70 and over:
