We arrive in Lisbon on 30 March and have to be in Barcelona by 1 April. How would you suggest we travel? Plane? Train? Rent a car? Thank you!

It is a looooong drive and an expensive train trip, especiallybif you take the night train from Lisbon to Madrid. I suggest you fly. My sister is there now and just did this. They found very reasonable prices on Lufthansa, without all the addons that the budget carriers apply. But also check Vueling.

I would fly. It's only a couple hour flight (you will lose an hour crossing a time zone) and you should be able to find a cheap fare. I did it on Vueling and it was extremely cheap but that was a few years ago (like 30 euros each or something after taxes). If you're planning to do any sight-seeing in Lisbon at all (which I would highly recommend that you do!), any other option would leave you basically no time in Lisbon. At least if you fly out say morning April 1, you have a full day in Lisbon to enjoy it and you still get to barcelona on time.

Driving is very expensive because of high international drop-off charges.
