We (2 seniors) are straying at the Lime Tree Hotel and need to travel to Canterbury to join a RS tour on Friday, September 14th. I believe we can take a train from Victoria Station (which seems the most convenient) to Canterbury.
Buy tickets in advance or can it be done almost as economically that day? Any other suggestions/advice?

That route isn't especially expensive but you may get a discount in advance. Go to https://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/. Make sure that you pick London Victoria as your start station, as there are trains to Canterbury from three different London termini. There are also two different stations in Canterbury that are served by entirely different routes from London - you want Canterbury East.
