Looking for suggestions for transportation from LHR to the Dover cruise port. I know the trip is approximately two hours so the shuttle provided by the ship may be the best bet considering I will be traveling with a
24" bag. Thanks for your suggestions.
What time is your flight scheduled to arrive at LHR? What time do you need to be on board your ship?
Tim, I haven't booked it yet. I would arrive a day prior to sailing and stay near LHR. Ships usually sail about 4pm. It sounds as though this is one of those times when you want to use the shuttle as opposed to public transportation.
Unless it truly would be a challenge for you to carry your bag on and off a train, here's a suggestion. Since you will be arriving a day early, stay in London overnight. IMO, that would be much more appealing than an airport hotel and you could see a bit of London on the day you arrive and the next morning. Take a private car service from LHR to a hotel near St Pancras International. The station is in postal code N1. Just Airports offers a cash fare of £37 for a saloon (sedan) from LHR to anywhere in N1. Take a high-speed Southeastern train from St Pancras International to Dover Priory. The trip takes 1hr10min and the 2nd class fare is £39.90.
I'd rather sit on a fire ant pile than camp out at an airport just for the heck of it. If you dont want to tackle London, there's plenty of small hotels and such in Dover and they won't get as deep into your wallet. You wouldn't get bored in a couple of days, either. If youre going to train it the whole way, the trip will start with a change at Paddington. After that, I suspect the next change would vary with the time of day........ Back to Tim.
