Leaving "Eurail" territory on night train

Hello all,
I am going to be doing some traveling in Slovenia, Austria, Czech rep., and Poland. I am planning on getting a Eurail select pass to cover the first three of those countries. Unfortunately, Poland is not yet included on Eurail's select pass list, so my question is this: I will be taking an overnight train from Prague to Krakow. The eurail pass will cover me up to the border of Poland and Czech republic. How does it work in night trains? If I buy a pass covering me from the border to Krakow, do I get both of them stamped in the beginning of the trip? Or will I have to get up in the middle of the night as we cross the border to show the conductor the within-Poland pass?

Thanks.

Hi Katrina,

While you are in Europe, go to any major train station and purchase a ticket to cover you from the border to Krakow. They will advise you if you need to get the ticket stamped, or if you can just hop on with it (most likely just hop on). When you start your night, hand the night attendant both your pass covering the Czech Republic, your ticket from the border to Krakow, and your night train reservation; with all of these, you will have no problems. The only exception to this is that some trains have a conductor from both countries, such as a night train I took from Prague to Frankfurt. Even if they have two conductors (a Czech one and a Polish one), they both will still come by and check your ticket/pass at the beginning of your trip so you will not need to wakeup in the middle of the night.

I did exactly what you were doing, except from Vienna to Prague (I had a Czech Pass). I purchased a supplemental ticket from Vienna to the Czech border, and the pass carried me the rest of the way.

Have a great trip!
