Leaving cinque terre

Later this year we are spending some time in Cinque Terre, Italy and and then going to Zagreb in Croatia. The Train will take too long, and I dont know of a direct flight. Can anyone suggest the easiest airport to leave from and what connecting flight works best without wasting too much time sitting around airports waiting for a connecting flight.

Pisa has the closest airport with many flights. See what is available from there. Genoa's airport might be a second choice.

The place to start your search is skyscanner.com which lists both budget airlines and national airlines. According to the site, your options are limited from Pisa, the fares are high, and the connection time is lengthy. Genoa is a little better, but you'll have the most choices if you leave from Milan.

Barry, As Tim mentioned, your best bet would be a departure from Milan / MXP. I believe Germanwings offers flights to Zagreb, with a layover in Cologne. The flight is about 6-hours, so considerably shorter than the 12-14 hours by train. If you check SkyScanner, it will provide a choice of about 63 flights, in various price and flight durations. Hopefully you can find something that fits your budget. Flights from Pisa are also possible, but the prices seem to be considerably higher than from Milan. Good luck and happy travels!
