Has anyone leased via the Renault Eurodrive program? The total cost quoted INCLUDING CDW insurance for 21 days is $1281 for an economy car if its picked up and dropped off in France. Knowing how expensive CDW usually is, I'm curious if this is a better way to go or if there are pitfalls I don't know about. Thanks!!
Hi Prudence, IMO, a lease contract is the most attractive option is you need a car for 3 weeks or more. Once you hit the 19th day mark, you often start getting a bit of a price advantage with a lease, especially for France - as the prices there seem to be the most competitive. Pros: price, excellent support services, new car, great insurance coverage
Cons: less pick-up points, must make an appointment at a fixed time for the return Go for it, it's a good deal.
There are no pitfalls. We've leased through Renault Eurodrive 3 or 4 times and it's great. Brand new car, full insurance coverage, 24/7 roadside assistance if needed. Total peace of mind, and compared to a 3-week rental, almost always cheaper.
We've leased through Peugeot 5 times and would definitely do it again. Loved having a brand new car with all insurances included. Never had any issues with pick up or drop off . We usually deal through www.autofrance.net . Always good customer service.
In the last 6 years I have rented once and leased twice, once through Renault and once through Peugeot. NO question in my mind, do the lease. Not only are you getting a brand new car with full CDW, you are getting free additional drivers (as long as they are family and over 18) and the insurance package includes a ton of liability coverage as well. My preference is leasing from Peugeot because my wife cannot drive a stick shift and they offer a wider selection of automatic transmission vehicles than Renault. Otherwise both experiences have been excellent. There only two micro quirks with the leases. 1) The car is brand new and it comes with the factory fuel load which is darned little. You will need a gas station pronto and they will give you excellent directions to the nearest one. On the other hand you get to return it with as little fuel as you care to. 2) Although the text is buried in the fine print of rental contracts, a promissory note for the full price of the car should you fail to return it, is a separate document when you sign your lease papers. I sort of choked when I signed the first one but as a friend said, "You've signed one every time you rented a car, you just didn't know it." We will be leasing again this fall. Have a great trip
You'll just have to compare cost of rental vs. lease for the vehicle you want. If you have a credit card with good insurance coverage, renting may be a better deal. American Express has first dollar coverage for $20 per rental. Other cards may or may not have a deductible. Insurance has been covered extensively in the forums, so research for pros and cons. I've not found leasing to be advantageous.
Is the Renault lease program also available in the UK and Ireland? Or is there another lease program you could recommend? Thank you.
Thanks everyone for all the responses and the great information! I wonder if anyone knows if you can do these leases for longer periods too, like several months?
