Layover time at DTW?

I've bought our tickets for Europe and Delta has deleted the return flight and assigned us to another - the cheapest one that leaves CDG at 8:30 in the morning - yuck. I received an email stating that I can change the tickets and found a flight leaving at 1:00 in the afternoon with a 1:45 minute layover at DTW. We plan to be carry-on only and I am wondering if this is a long enough layover. There are no later flights to JAX if we miss our connecting flight. The alternative is a 3-4 layover in ATL. Better safe than sorry?

Thoughts please, and I appreciate your response.

1:45 should be plenty of time to make your connection through DTW, especially if you're sitting in the front Economy Plus seat section.

Because you must collect your luggage and then clear Customs and Border Control, it doesn't mean anything about where you sit on the plane, it means if you are lucky at luggage belt bingo. When you get your bags, you may continue on.

Our seats are in Business and we will be not checking luggage. It would be nice to have the time to pick up a sandwich to take on the next flight.

You should have plenty of time, including the sandwich stop. DTW is pretty easy to navigate, but check the layout of the airport before you land if you want to feel safer about the time.

I agree. I usually connect through DTW and almost 2 hours should be plenty of time as long as you leave CDG on time. As Zoe said, the airport is very easy to navigate!

My tickets are changed and now I have another question... maybe two or three : )

Have you flown on the Delta airbus 330-300 (333) in the business class flat beds?
I know the two center seats are separated by a partition and am wondering if husband and I might be able to communicate better if we had one window seat and one center seat rather than two center seats? I have looked on seat guru and don't see any info about this for this plane.

My other transportation question is about getting to CDG at the end of our tour. Not having experience using buses, railways, etc. I am concerned about using that type of transportation at the end of the tour when time is pressing. Do many tour members take taxis, share taxis, etc. to the airport instead? What do the tour guides usually recommend? Will they help you arrange your transportation?

In my experience tour members often share transportation at the end of the tour. On most of my tours the guide had us write down our departure plans a couple of days out and then they sort of batched people for airport transportation. Since you are winding up in Paris, the guide will likely work with the hotel to arrange for taxis to the airport based on departure times. If I recall correctly mine gathered the departure information on the last bus section, going from Beaune in to Paris. He had us all together in a more or less controlled environment, lol.

I would not worry about this right now but would wait. Your fall-back plan will be asking the hotel desk to arrange for a taxi for you and you will do this the afternoon or evening before you depart.

I know many here take public transportation to/from the airport but in Paris the time I did it there was a really long walk in the RER station when going from the Metro to the RER train. I would not want to do that managing my bag, even though it is carry on size.

Communicating with your spouse in that seating should not be a problem. My wife and I had the center seats on a trip to Australia and it was not an issue. The partition is low enough that you can see and talk with each other. Just don't be like my wife and put your reading glasses on a flat surface instead of a storage cubby. Hers fell into the seat area and they were lost forever.

Oh gosh, thanks for letting me know that about the glasses John as we both wear them.

And thanks for the heads up about the seats.
