Our flight to Paris has 7 hour layover in Montreal. We'd like to go into the city for a few hours but we're worried about getting in and out of the airport, e.g. Customs, security, etc. Has anyone ever done that?
What time of day and what day of the week will you land in Montreal? Our city is one vast construction site as the powers-that-be, having neglected highways, sewer systems, etc. for decades struggle to mend their ways. Getting from Point A to Point B can be frustrating and time consuming and can change within hours. You could instead take a cab to Pointe Claire village, a couple of miles from the airport. There are some interesting shops and a couple of very good restaurants, and the village is itself quite historic. Can't encourage you to venture into the city of Montreal with only 7 hours.
Thanks so much for your reply Norma. We land in Montreal at 2:00 P.M. and fly out at 9:00P.M. On a Saturday.
I wouldn't risk it. By the time you get through Passport Control it'll be 3:00 pm and you would need to be back at the airport by 7:00pm. All things considered hardly enough time. Save Montreal for another time.
what a shame, it's a great city to visit. But yes if you do the maths, it doesn't add up.
If you really, really want to leave the airport for a while, and don't mind spending some money, you could take a taxi and tell the driver you want to drive along the Lakeshore Road (Bord du Lac) from Dorval to Ste. Anne de Bellevue. It's a pretty drive, not sensational, but a look at the wealthy towns and big self-important houses bordering Lake St. Louis.
