Layover in Gatwick (GLA-LGW-TPA)

Hello,
I am trying to figure out what our layover situation will be when returning home. On our trip here (Tampa-Gatwick-Glasgow), upon arrival in Gatwick, we exited the airport and re-entered through normal departures. Our flight leaving Tampa was late so to help with the tight connection, we bought the fast track passport and security lanes. I am glad we did because I think we would have missed the connecting flight.

So now I want to be prepared for the trip home-Glasgow-Gatwick-Tampa on British Airways. Since i am arriving in Gatwick from a UK city, will it be the exact same situation or an airside transfer? I know there will be passport control but security? There is a blurb on their website but it isn’t very detailed.

Thank you!

Is this on one ticket or two? Do you have checked luggage? What airlines are you flying?

Since you are arriving from a UK city there is no passport control. There is also no exit immigration from the UK.

I need the answers to my questions to complete my answer.

One itinerary. no checked bags. But i don’t think the checked bags matter in this situation. this is a question very specific to Gatwick. When transiting through Gatwick, from the USA, to a UK destination, all on British airways, same itinerary, I had to physically leave the airport and re-enter. When i say leave, I didn’t go outside but I exited baggage claim like everyone else who was leaving the airport and then went up to departures, like everyone who had just arrived at the airport.

So my question for Gatwick specifically, since I am arriving from a UK destination, am I following this same pattern? And I will have to go through some type of passport control because my flight from Gatwick is to the US.

My rationale for asking this is, Gatwick offers premium security and passport control which we used on our incoming flight because of a tight connection . We might have a similar situation this time if flights are delayed. But I don’t want to spend money on this if it’s different lines (because I am airside and not landslide) and a whole different pattern.

For other airports (including Heathrow), I have found it very easy to figure out what the logistics of a of the connection during a layover looks like, depending on flight origin/destination. Either the airport website has something or someone had made a youtube video.

So to people who have traveled from the UK to Gatwick to USA, same itinerary (British airways), I would appreciate hearing what your connection logistics were.
