Lauterbrunnen to Bacharach

I just bought and printed train travel for 4 from Lauterbrunnen to Bacharach on the sbb website. Just a few questions :) At one point in the process I thought it said something about not all legs of journey are included - but the printed ticket says Lauterbrunnen to Bacharach - so are all legs of the the journey included? Even the regional trains from Lauterbrunnen to Interlaken and from Mainz to Bacharach? I also paid an optional seat reservation (probably not necessary), and it gave us seat assignment from Interlaken to Freiburg and then different assignments from Frieburg to Mainz.....there is not a train change here, so do we actually have to get up and change seats when the train stops a couple minutes in the station? That seems odd to me...but I guess I'll do it if that is what I am suppose to do :) Last question - I had to type in all the names, birthdates of the people going, but when I printed out the ticket (only one for 4 people?) it has only my name on it and it says I must present it unprompted to ticket control staff - is that onboard or before boarding? Not sure why this has to be so hard....thanks for any and all help :)

Donna, Yes, there is someone here. I'm just not sure how to answer all of your questions. If the ticket states "Lauterbrunnen to Bacharach" then I'm assuming that covers all legs, including the trip on the Berner Oberland train to Interlaken Ost. I'm not sure about having to change seats on the leg from Freiburg to Mainz? Which departure time from Interlaken Ost will you be taking? I checked one of the routes that departs at 10:00 and transits Freiburg, and there does appear to be a change from ICE374 to IC100, so you may be changing trains. Regarding your last question, I'd ask one of the station agents when you arrive at Interlaken Ost. They'll be able to explain the procedures in more detail. Where are you staying in Bacharach? Happy travels!

Donna, it might help to post the date and time of your trains. There may be different options on different days, such as weekends. I would imagine that all legs of the trip are covered if the ticket says so. It might be helpful to go to the DB website (I'm not as familiar with SBB) and see if you can find your exact routing. DB has lots of info about train numbers, intermediate stops etc. that may answer your questions. I have no idea about the change in seat reservation in Freiburg, but there is probably someone on this site who does!
I just bought train tickets on DB and got a single printout/ticket for all 4 of us. Is your ticket in German? If so, look closely and you may be able to find the number of passengers. ERW = adult. Kinder = children. Since you mention seat assigments, it sounds like you got all 4.

Thanks for answering - it was starting to feel a little lonely out here :) The train I want to take departs Lauterbrunnen at 9:33 on Friday, July 27th arriving in Bacharach at 16:27. It has 3 changes - Interlaken, Basel and Mainz. The ticket I printed out has the date, but no time on it - it is a supersaver ticket, but it looks like it might be good for 30 days.....it says Gultigkeit: 27.07.12 - 26.08.12 It does clearly say Lauterbrunnen -> Bacharach. On an email confirmation it says: Conditions and validity: Kein Umtausch/keine Erstattung/nur gultig in den gewahlten Zugen Too bad I don't know what that means :) We have reservations at the Rhein Hotel - it has free bikes and top rated food :) Thanks again for your guidance!

Where does it show different seats between Interlaken and Frieburg? Can you write exactly what it says? "Kein Umtausch/keine Erstattung/nur gultig in den gewahlten Zugen" "No exchange/ no refund / only valid on the selected trains."

Thanks for translating that Tom - to answer your question, the actual printed train ticket does not have the seat reservations - I have two separate reservation tickets. one says : 27.07 10.00 InterlakenOst ->Freiburg HBF 12.55 2 374 ICE Car 007 04 Seats: 61 62 63 64 TISCH the other: 27.07 13.04 Frieburg HBF ->MAINZ HBF 15.18 2 100 EC car 253 04 Seats: 51 52 53 58 Mittelgang Thanks for your excellent help!

Donna, It appears that you'll be taking the trains I mentioned earlier, so you probably will be changing trains in Freiburg. The word "Tisch" refers to table, so the seating will probably be 2 + 2 facing each other, with a table between. I'm not sure about the word "Mittelgang" with the second reservation but I believe it means "aisle" (I'm better with Italian than German). Tom, Lee or one of the others will have to provide a more precise translation.

Yes, "Mittelgang" is "aisle". I concur with Ken, it looks like your change is in Frieburg, not Basel.

Thanks so much for your help. I checked Bahn and it says the transfer is in Freiburg - sbb says it is in Basel...thus causing my confusion. Freiburg makes a lot more sense :)
Thanks!
