Lauterbrunnen Sites - Trummelbach Waterfalls

We will have the afternoon from 3:00pm on to explore Lauterbrunnen in April. I came across the Trummelbach Waterfalls as a highly recommended site. Would we have enough time to take the bus 3km, visit the falls and get back to our hotel in Lauterbrunnen by dinner time? Has anyone experienced this attraction? I look forward to your replies.

The falls are just outside Lauterbrunnen. In addition to the direct bus service (it only takes about five minutes to get there)you can easily walk to the complex via the well marked trail, it's a good hike- completely flat and very scenic. It will take about an hour to tour the Falls complex (it's a first-class attraction), you'll have plenty of time to be back for dinner.

While April is generally the worst time of the year to visit the Berner Oberland, Trummelbach falls should be more interesting that usual, due to all the snow melt-off. From 3 pm onward, I think you have more than enough time to see it and get back in time for dinner. Took me (and my dog) well less than an hour to walk through the caverns.

Thanks Michael, thanks Tom for the speedy replies. That's great news. Tom, as for April not being great, we also plan a Jungfrau excursion on the following day. What are your thoughts about heading up to the Jungfraujoch in mid April? To continue on we leave for Lucerne the day after this.

You're welcome. The Jungfrau can be done year-round. It's also a bit weather-proof as there are activities to do up there even when the visibility is poor, like the ice-gallery, and the glacier stuff. Hiking can be a challenge since the area may still be covered in snow in April.

You should have time to do it. However, if you only have one afternoon in Lauterbrunnen and the weather is clear, my recommendation would be to take the aerial tram to the Schilthorn ... it is spectacular. There is a revolving restaurant on the Schilthorn and you might want to even have dinner there. My favorite place to eat in Lauterbrunnen is on the front porch of the Hotel Oberland, weather permitting. Have a great trip, you will want to go again.

Thanks again Michael. Irv, thanks as well. We are going to Jungfrau the following day. I doubt I can convince my wife to go to the top of 2 mountains in 2 days. I know she will love it. This is our second trip to Switzerland in 2 years. This time we're taking our 2 sons. Thanks for your great suggestion.
