Our family of 5 stays close to the Place Monge metro station. Out flight back to the US from CDG is at 11:30 AM. What time should we leave the hotel and what's best for us to take, train or taxi and how we go about taking it. Thanks.
Backing it up, you need to strut into the airport at eight-thirty. From the time you hit the platform at Place Monge, figure an hour and fifteen minutes to get off at the airport. The ride is a bit less and you've got a pretty simple change, but I stuck in a fudge factor. Toss in fifteen minutes to get to check-in at T2 A-F, some more if you're out on the east end at G/H. Add the time to get to Pont Monge from where you're staying. The actual route is Metro 8 to Saint Michele -Notre Dame where you switch to REF B. Two trains pass through the station. Make sure you get the one that's going to Roissy. The taxi might shave fifteen minutes. If you go that route, have the hotel arrange it. For five, the cost is going to be about a wash. Again, with a taxi, make sure the hotel tells them how many of you there are and how much stuff you have.
Place Monge is on Metro line 7, not 8. Your route would be Metro line 7 to Chatelet. Walk through the connecting tunnels to the Chatelet-Les Halles RER station. If your flight leaves from Terminal 1, take the RER B to CDG 1 which is next to Terminal 3. Take the free CDGVAL driverless shuttle train to Terminal 1. If your flight leaves from Terminal 2, take the RER B to CDG 2 TGV which is under Terminal 2. Since the RER B line divides northeast of Paris, note what Ed said about taking the right train. However, with a party of five, I think taking a taxi would be better - and it wouldn't cost all that much more. Be sure to have your hotel arrange for a minivan taxi.
Ack. What I was thinking was walking to Jussieu, then tunnel hiking to ..... Oh, hell never mind. Where the heck's Metro 8, anyway? Listen to Tim. He has a lick of sense.
Take a taxi. its almost 10 euros a head for RER , so really for an extra 10-15 euros why not get door to door delievery. The taxi driver will charge you an extra one euro per suitcase off the meter, and an extra 3 euros for extra people over 3 . Since ride is generally 45-55 euros , you will likely be paying 60-65 euros. Note, when hotel calls you a taxi, it will arrive with some time already on the meter. This is also legal as the taxi drivers turn on meter when they receive the call to your hotel and are enroute.. ( I don't like that practice but its the extra you pay for door to door, otherwise they expect you to walk to a taxi stand and get one there , which can be risky if under time limit)
